Black Mold is Toxic - True or False?

The answer is: It depends.

In the United States there are approximately 120,000 different kinds of mold and many of them are black. There are in fact 5 types of mold which have proven toxic affects. One of the five toxic molds is Stachybotrys, which is also referred to as "black mold". Stachybotrys typically grows where there has been prolonged water moisture, such under a sink or behind a shower where a water leak went undetected for a period of time.

The other 119,xxx types of mold can cause symptoms ranging from runny nose and itchy eyes, to flu like symptoms and more.

Mold type can only be identified under a microscope, it can not be discerned with the naked eye. However, the remediation method is the same for all types of mold...the source has to be removed.
