Blown Fiberglass vs. Blown Cellulose Insulation

Blown Fiberglass vs. Blown Cellulose Insulation - Image 1

The benefits of blown fiberglass insulation is that it is cheap and easy to install. That is where the benefits of blown fiberglass attic insulation end. Blown in fiberglass is light and airy, which is not what you want when it comes to attic insulation. It is porous, and allows air to penetrate through it. If you have blown in fiberglass in your attic, your HVAC bills are likely higher than necessary, and it probably takes your home awhile to heat up or cool down.

The alternative to blown fiberglass is blown cellulose attic insulation. We use TruSoft blown in cellulose attic insulation because it is heavier, denser, and has a higher R (insulation) value per inch than blown fiberglass. Besides being a superior attic insulator, blown in cellulose has a Class 1 Fire Safety rating, making it safer than blown fiberglass insulation. Blown in cellulose is also environmentally friendly, composed mostly of recycled paper. Blown in cellulose is also quick and easy to install.

If you are considering having your attic insulation done, or redone, blown in cellulose insulation is the way to go. Do not waste your time or money installing blown in fiberglass, because it will not insulate your attic the way you want it to.
